What’s Actually Included at an All-Inclusive Resort (and What Isn’t)

Resort pool at an all-inclusive resort — See The World With Me Travel, LLC

“All-inclusive” sounds simple — pay once, then put your wallet away. And for the most part, that’s true. But the details vary more than most people realize, and knowing what’s covered before you book is the difference between a carefree vacation and a surprise bill at checkout. Here’s how I explain it to my clients.

What’s usually included. Your room, all your meals at the resort’s restaurants and buffets, snacks, and drinks — including most cocktails, beer, wine, and non-alcoholic options. You’ll also get access to the pools and beach, daily activities, fitness classes, and nightly entertainment, from live music to themed shows. Many resorts include non-motorized water sports too, like kayaking, paddleboarding, and snorkeling gear.

What usually costs extra. Spa treatments, private cabanas, romantic beach dinners, and top-shelf premium bottles are almost always an add-on. So are off-resort excursions — the catamaran sail, the waterfall tour, the zip-line adventure. Some specialty restaurants or chef’s-table experiences carry a surcharge as well. None of that should stop you; it just means you should budget for the extras you actually want.

A word about tipping. Many resorts say gratuities are included, and technically they are. But a few dollars for the bartender who remembers your order, the housekeeper who keeps your room beautiful, and the server who makes your birthday dinner special goes a long way — and it’s always appreciated. I suggest bringing small bills so you’re never caught without them.

Ask about transfers and resort credits. Airport transfers are included at some resorts and an extra charge at others — and that ride can add up, especially on an island where the resort is an hour from the airport. Some properties also offer resort credits for the spa or excursions, but they often come with conditions, like a minimum spend. I always check those fine-print details before quoting a price, so the number I give you is the number you can actually plan around.

The part nobody tells you: “all-inclusive” does not mean every resort feels the same. One property is built for couples who want quiet luxury. Another is made for families, with water parks and kids’ clubs. Another comes alive at night for a girls’ trip. The included amenities can look identical on paper while the experience feels completely different — and your room category matters too, because swim-out suites, ocean views, and club-level perks are not standard everywhere.

That’s why matching the resort to your vibe matters more than chasing the longest list of inclusions. Tell me how you want the trip to feel, and I’ll match you with a resort where what’s included is exactly what you’ll love.

The Best Time to Book a Cruise for 2027 (and How to Avoid Overpaying)

Cruise ship at sea — See The World With Me Travel, LLC

If a 2027 cruise is on your vision board, the calendar matters just as much as the destination. Cruise prices move with demand, and a little timing know-how can be the difference between a great deal and an overpriced cabin. Here’s how the booking window really works.

Wave season is the sweet spot. January through March is the cruise industry’s biggest sale period — “wave season” — when cruise lines roll out their best promotions of the year: reduced deposits, onboard credits, drink packages, and cabin upgrades. If you can book your 2027 sailing during wave season, start there.

Book peak dates early. Spring break, summer, and holiday sailings sell out the fastest and climb in price the longer you wait. For those dates, aim to book 6 to 12 months ahead. Off-season sailings — late fall and early December — are where the bargains live.

Last-minute deals are real — but picky. Cruise lines discount unsold cabins in the final 60 to 90 days. The catch: your choice of cabin and sailing date is whatever’s left, and flights booked last minute can wipe out the savings.

Consider a repositioning cruise. When ships move between regions each season, those one-way sailings are often priced well below a typical cruise — more sea days, more value, and ports you might never have considered.

Here’s the part most people miss: fares can drop after you book, and many cruise lines will honor the lower price before final payment. A good travel agent watches your sailing and re-prices it for you — something you can’t get if you book it yourself and never look back.
